We are a team of 19 year 11 students from the Whitehaven Academy in Cumbria and this is a blog recording our journey as we take hold of an extraordinary opportunity.
If you could see the earth illuminated when you were in a place as dark as night, it would look to you more splendid than the moon. — Galileo
Our mission is to send a weather balloon into space to capture images of the curvature of the earth, the earth’s atmosphere and the blackness of space. In addition to this we aim to record the altitude our device reaches and the temperatures it faces. This is only half the story though because there’s no going up without coming back down- our device faces a massive descent of up to 105,000ft and a landing that could be on the other side of the country ( or next door).
This challenge is like none we’ve ever faced before! We’ve already had many difficulties thrown at us but gradually our space trip is beginning to come together.
Our sponsors REACT engineering have given us this task with £400 to complete it. Will you follow us on our journey as we reach for space?
If you haven’t already then please follow us on twitter (@WHASpaceTrip) and subscribe to our YouTube page WHASpaceTrip. You can now also find us on Facebook (Wha SpaceTrip) .Also, it’s definitely worth spending a few minutes looking our teaser trailer and stop motion video that have been created by our team and are found on the 'About' page of this blog.
